Principles

Based on Sasaki's understanding of the objectives established by the College, the physical site analysis of the campus and campus worksessions, the following principles have been identified:

  • Create a unified and contiguous residential and academic core campus

  • Develop cohesive residential villages by class

  • Reinforce the mission by bringing together academic, social and spiritual pursuits

  • Strengthen movement systems on campus by creating a better pedestrian environment and creating clear peripheral vehicular circulation and parking

  • Extend the landscape quality of defined open spaces and quadrangles found on the historic middle campus

  • Focus strategic acquisitions on key nodes and important campus links

  • Respect the surrounding character of the neighborhoods by creating density closest to the core campus

  • Concentrate faculty on the campus to encourage collaboration.
