Message from the President

The mission of The University of Southern Mississippi is to lead in engaging and empowering individuals to transform lives and communities. An attractive and efficient campus is critical to enhance our academic environment and fulfill this vision.

There have been many improvements to the Southern Miss campus in Hattiesburg in recent years. Grounds beautification along with a building initiative to enhance campus experiences have been the priorities. Pedestrian areas, the Thad Cochran Center and the International Building are the recent examples.

The Hattiesburg campus Master Plan will address comprehensive facility and landscape needs and guide us through the next ten to twenty years and beyond.

  • The Master Campus and Facility Planning Committee is comprised of representatives from students, faculty, staff, alumni and other community groups.
  • Led by Sid Gonsoulin, Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, the committee has worked diligently to provide information, ideas and programmatic plans.
  • The campus planning project has been and will continue to be participative and transparent.

Browse through the work to date (see the tabs above) and we will continue to keep you updated on this Web site. We appreciate your interest, support and input as we move forward with the Master Campus Facility Plan.

Dr. Martha D. Saunders, President
